STORY
Risen is the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), a powerful Roman military tribune, and his aide, Lucius (Tom Felton), are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.

PONTIUS PILATE
26 - 36 AD
Pontius Pilate was the prefect of the Roman province of Judea from 26-36AD. He orders Jesus’ execution then seeks to exonerate himself by washing his hands of all blame. He was known for his temper and inflexible ways.
SOLDIERS
PASSOVER ~30 AD
Pilate and his soldiers travel to Jerusalem to ensure there is order among the people during Passover. The Passover festival often was a tumultuous time as Jewish resentment towards Roman rule ran high, especially during religious holidays.
HEROD'S CASTLE
GOOD FRIDAY ~30 AD
The Sanhedrin trial of Jesus and Pontius Pilate’s order for him to be crucified took place at Herod’s Castle in Jerusalem. He was charged of claiming to be “King of the Jews”.
GOL'GOTHA
GOOD FRIDAY ~30 AD
Jesus is crucified at Gol’gotha, a hill outside the gates of Jerusalem. Golgotha means “the place of the skull”. Members of Pilate’s legion try to maintain order among the crowd.
JESUS' TOMB
2 DAYS AFTER PASSOVER ~30 AD
Three days after Jesus’ execution and Clavius’ order to seal his tomb, the tomb is discovered empty and Jesus’ body is gone. Pontius Pilate orders Clavius to find Jesus’ body to avoid an uprising of the Jews.
MARY MAGDALENE
2 DAYS AFTER PASSOVER ~30 AD
Mary Magdalene, a longtime follower of Jesus’ ministry is reported to be one of the first witnesses to see Jesus after his resurrection.
THE APOSTLES
2 DAYS AFTER PASSOVER ~30 AD
Jesus appears to his disciples but Thomas is not present. This is the last of Jesus’ appearances on Easter Sunday, the day of his resurrection.

Jesus appears to his disciples when Thomas is present. Thomas, at first doubtful, is encouraged by Jesus to touch his wounds and believe.

Jesus presented himself many times to different people following his Resurrection. 40 days later he ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God.
